2014 Porsche 918 Spyder channels its inner hippie
Last week we brought you the new 918 Spyder under-going track testing adorned in Martini livery, and now we are pleased to present to you the 918 hot-weather testing in the also famous "Hippie Livery". It seems Porsche engineers are keen on using vintage racing livery paint jobs from their 917 race cars on their 918 prototypes and we love it!
This prototype didn't have front or rear canards affixed which leads us to believe this one is not out-fitted with the optional track package as the Martini liveried one shown last week
The 918 Spyder will be billed mainly as a hybrid, powered by a 4.6 liter V8 with some 570 hp, a rear electric motor with some 120 hp and a front electric motor delivering some 110 hp. That means the 918 Spyder will deliver close to or more than 800 hp.
With a price tag at around $850,000 USD, this will not be a car that you see at every corner, except if your corner is Teamspeed. Porsche states that only 918 example will be built and will go into production at the end of September 2013 as planned, with the first customers receiving their vehicles before the end of 2013.
“What we are doing with the 918 Spyder is redefining driving fun, efficiency and performance,” said Wolfgang Hatz, Member of the Executive Board Research and Development of Porsche AG.
We are hoping to see more of these very soon so stay tuned for more as testing is clearly underway and heating up.
