With eighth-mile e.t.’s under 5.8 seconds, it’s easy to see why Brian Schimmel has taken home the hardware at three Goodguys Rod & Custom Shootout events. This truck gets with the program and the 1.28-second 60-foot time
The only bling out back is the RCI 10-gallon aluminum fuel cell and 15-pound NOS bottle. The Griffin aluminum radiator and trans cooler reside between the rear down tubes of the rollcage and are partially hidden by what’s left of Brian’s homebuilt aluminum tonneau cover. Below the ’cage is a ’57 Olds rearend built with 35-spline axles and 3.90 gears by Fabcraft Metal Works.
Simplicity rules supreme in the cab. Auto Meter needles display the big-block’s vital signs while a programmable Edelbrock nitrous controller keeps the nitrous hit from shocking the drivetrain and breaking the rear tires loose. Rod and Competition Specialties built the 8.50-certified ’cage and Paul Tadin wired the entire truck, including the MSD Digital 6 box and nitrous system. The bulk of the bread that went into this truck was spent with Rod & Competition Specialties on the adjustable suspension and with C&S Performance of Butler, Wisconsin, on the thumper under the hood. The 555ci big-block sports a GM Bow Tie block bored to 4.560 inches and stuffed with a quarter-stroke Callies Magnum crank, Oliver billet steel rods, and JE slugs. CFE Racing Products BMF 350 heads yield 13.4:1 static compression with 121cc CNC-finished chambers and are fitted with stainless valves and Jesel shaft-mount rocker arms.
