VW compact sedan (Ameo) continues testing

The Maruti Dzire rival is slated to go on sale in mid-2016.
The VW compact sedan which is reported to go by the name Ameo continues to test in and around Pune. The sub-4 metre sedan based on the Polo/Vento platform is expected to make its world premiere at the Auto Expo 2016.
The test mules are camouflaged at both ends but it’s apparent that the Ameo is essentially a Polo with a stubby third box. The car will rely on plastic elements like the grille and bumpers to differentiate itself from its stablemates.
Earlier spyshots revealed that the dual-tone dashboard too has been lifted off the Polo. A flat bottomed multi-function steering wheel, silver paneled centre console with a multimedia infotainment display, automatic climate control and dual-tone black-beige color theme are the interior highlights.
We expect the Ameo compact sedan to offer dual airbags and ABS with EBD as standard equipment across the range. Top-end variant is expected to pack a multimedia infotainment system with color display, reverse parking sensors, power windors, remote locking, electrically adjustable ORVMs, alloy wheels, foglights, etc.

The VW compact sedan would borrow its powertrain lineup from its hatchback sibling. The 1.2-litre MPI petrol and 1.5-litre TDi diesel engine would be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The 1.2-litre TSI turbo petrol motor with 7-speed DSG could be offered as the range-topping petrol variant.
