            1959 GMC 1/2 ton NAPCO 4X4

This 1959 GMC 1/2 ton pickup (chassis 1028PS16701A) doesn’t come with a lot of extra information, but it is claimed to be a great running example that should be capable of being enjoyed immediately with only minor sorting needed. NAPCO and General Motors parted ways in 1960, so this great-looking rig represents one of the last available before the end of outsourced four-wheel-drive systems by the Big Three. As was common with these trucks, it is fitted from the factory with a PTO-driven winch, along with that upgraded suspension and drive line package. Find it here on eBay in Scottsdale, Arizona with reserve not met.

This truck has the perfect stance, sitting high on brand new 7.50 x 16 knobby tires. The factory light blue paint has just the right amount of patina, and although we do spy a few small rust holes to the lower body, they don’t appear to be too serious. The body is fairly roughed-up, with dings and dents found nearly everywhere, but they fill the bill for that work-truck vibe. The white cab top, grille, and headlight buckets give a nice color contrast, and the matching wheel caps set it all off nicely.

The original-looking interior carries over the working theme, with worn-in surfaces most everywhere one looks. The floorboards appear to be pretty solid from a corrosion standpoint, and the doors appear just as good. The seat looks like it may have been recovered in the past, but is losing a bit of its shape. No mileage numbers are noted, and the state of the electric accessories aren’t given.

Check out the step-well mounted winch controller-there’s just something about mechanical levers that are a joy to operate, and we’d have a ton of fun with this.

Open the hood and you’ll find the bone-stock 336ci V8 wearing a heavy coat of oxidation. It reportedly runs very well though, and these are among the easiest engines to work on and a ton of room is provided to do so. It only churns out 171 HP, but these motors were known for their low-power torque output. A new master cylinder has been installed, and it appears the carburetor is on the newer side as well. New brakes and shocks have also been fitted.

NAPCOs have been getting scarcer by the year, a fact reflected in their rising prices as of late. There’s something to be said for the age of simplistic reliability, and this work-truck appears to be a solid candidate for anyone looking to get their foot in the door.
