at the 2016 NAIAS, nissan released a super-sized, off-road modified design study it calls the ‘titan warrior concept’. the american based design team took the ‘titan XD’ vehicle’s production design to futuristic extremes with unapologetic, aggressive, athletic styling features.

interview with nissan designer randy rodriguez about the concept at 2016 NAIAS

the ‘titan warrior concept’ creators had a strong foundation on which to build their vision of a bold expanding future in the full-size pickup market. they wanted to have the concept truck in an even more powerful presence than the original. the height was raised nearly three inches, to fit a quartet of 37-inch tall off-road tires mounted on custom aluminum-alloy wheels with each machined with a dark matte finish.

to create clearance for the oversize tires, the width was extended three inches on each side

building on the styling, the designers amplified the protective look of the production exterior. designating the look as ‘modern armor’, with a stealthy, robotic quality, they continued the anatomical feel of the production ‘titan’, but added a more machine-like, sharper-edge appearance.

the automotive designers kept the production ‘titan XD crew cab’ layout

the grille and signature headlights were enhanced to offer a more technical, menacing look. the front and rear fenders have been flared, and offer an extremely muscular appearance. functional hood vents were added for cooling the powerful 5.0 L V8 turbo diesel engine. the broad hoodline is balanced underneath by the large front skid plate, which interlocks into the powerful front bumper. custom LED lights, added to the concept to carry a more precise, upright and robotic feel. as a finishing touch, a quad-tipped exhaust system is integrated into the rear bumper.

despite its massive bulk, ‘titan warrior concept’ adds several aerodynamic elements, including carbon fiber rear cab spoiler and tailgate. additional unique body elements include integrated, roof-mounted LED off-road lights.

‘while nissan still has many roads and trails to travel as we continue to launch additional production versions of our bold new titan, this new titan warrior concept gives an important signal to american truck enthusiasts that our vision for exploring new boundaries remains strong,’ explains josé munoz, chairman of nissan north america. ‘truck lovers are never static and neither is titan.’

Moss Gold Honey: Restored 1975 Chevrolet Blazer

This 1975 Chevrolet Blazer (chassis CKM185F150898) represents the last year of the full convertible top. Presented in distinctive Moss Gold over wood grain, this truck looks tough and undeniably of the 1970s. BFG T/A tires, a Flowmaster burble from the the 400ci V8 and the potential for wind in your hair all add up to a cool rig. Find it here on eBay in Boulder, Colorado with no reserve and fast bidding. Special thanks to BaT reader S.D. for this submission.

Debuting in 1969, the Blazer was intended to compete with the smaller International Harvester Scout and Ford Bronco, the latter of which had been aimed at Jeep’s CJ. The genius of the Blazer was that its shortened pick-up frame lowered production costs while offering more interior space than either of its competitors, and the availability of “luxury” items like an automatic transmission and A/C further helped sales–by 1970 it was outselling both of its older rivals. Wearing a repaint, new “wood” and sparkling trim, the truck looks fantastic in photos. The unorthodox side mirror placement comes from the need to cover a hole for an owner-installed searchlight–not ideal, but there doesn’t appear to have been many more shortcuts taken.

Moss Gold is the truck’s correct factory color, but wood grain-covered side panels would have originally been white. Somehow, we’re not entirely disappointed by this change. Having spent its life in New Mexico, the body and frame are said to be rot-free. Notably, the current owner has had the top covered in vinyl material, and painted the interior of its shell to match the cabin. With slightly better lighting, the view below could almost past for a period brochure image.

The interior is attractive and inviting in warm honey-brown vinyl, wood-grain accents and new carpet. All dash gauges, warning lights and dials function properly. One of the neater details of this truck is that a blanking plate has been installed in place of the radio, with a newer head unit is hidden in the center console.

In 1975 a 400ci small-block with 185 HP and 300 ft. lbs. was nothing to sneeze at, but fortunately for those with lead feet, invisible upgrades are available–this one should maintain its largely factory look in our opinion. Rebuilt by the previous owner and said to run cool, the seller also notes healthy oil pressure and no smoke on startup or under heavy throttle. Power is passed to a TH400 automatic, through an NP transfer case (either a 203 or 205) and finally onto a locking differential with 3.73 gears. While the engine bay is pretty well coated in black satin, correct finishes shouldn’t be hard to replicate, and the missing A/C compressor is included. We’re already in a hurry to get the top off.
